I found their original tune called “Mambosaki” quite interesting, arranged with a Latin mambo beat, with both this song and the opening title tune penned by Aaron Aranita. It’s Aranita on piano who syncopates the rhythm along with Scott Shafer on drums. Aranita also plays flute during this arrangement.
The group name is also a tune written by guitarist, David Yamasaki. It has a funk groove. This time, Aaron Aranita improvises on his bass clarinet. He sounds absolutely beautiful. Ernie Provencher adds a fluid electric bass solo that’s quite melodic.
Drummer, Scott Shafer has composed “Bubbles the Clown” that’s a medium tempo song built on comfortable blues changes. Aranita blows his saxophone, notes spraying like bubbles in the wind. Ernie Provencher is a stellar improviser on his bass instrument. When the group trades ‘fours’ then Shafer gets to strut his stuff on trap drums.
Everyone in the group is a composer. On “The Path,” penned by guitarist David Yamasaki, the tune unfolds with a warm blanket of melody played by the composer. On a tune called Manoa, they add the smooth vocals of Sandra Tsukiyama, who sings in Portuguese and adds a touch of Brazil to this project.
